Doctorate
Although the Department of Turkish Language and Literature offers only one degree, it offers doctoral programs in two fields of specialization: Old Turkish Literature and New Turkish Literature. Both programs consist of courses equal to 25/28 credits and a doctoral thesis.
Students choose 16 credits of the 25/28 credits which they are expected to complete in the doctoral program according to their own area of specialization from among the specialty electives opened by the department. 9/12 credits are completed with electives from the other departments of humanities and social sciences. Doctoral courses have to be completed in at most four semesters.
Students to be accepted for the doctoral program are expected to have had either their undergraduate or their graduate education in literature. Students are asked to take preliminary preparation courses for one year if necessary.
Doctoral students have to take the Proficiency exam at the end of the fifth semester at the latest. Student who fail in the Proficiency exam have to take the exam again in the following semester. Students who fail the exam again are dismissed from the doctoral program.
Thesis
Students who pass the Proficiency exam will register for the thesis.
